Midseason Senior Show Down
Congratuations to the Dbacks on winning the tournament, if you are through celebration can you please return the trophy so we can have it engraved. Many thanks to all of the teams, thanks to you we collected $1320 and donated it to the West Island Black Community Association (WIBCA) for their Senior Holiday Basket programme. Geoff Clark whom you all know has taken on the role of Community Relations for the League. It is through his efforts that we made contact with WIBCA. Geoff also arranged with our Minor Association for the donation of baseball equipment that was surplus to the ongoing requirements of Baseball West Island to WIBCA. WIBCA intends to use this equipment to start their own baseball program. Thanks to one and all!
Vintage Baseball
Through the League’s corporate partners we were invited to send a team to play an exhibition game against the Canadian team which was headed to Westfield, Massachusetts to compete in the second annual Vintage Base Ball World Championship. The players we sent had a ball.
Canadian team captain Johnny Elias had concerns about whether his players could adapt to the old-school equipment and rules quickly enough to be competitive. He needn't have worried. The Quebec team destroyed every opponent - including a 19-2 rout of California - on its way to the title, capping the weekend with a 15-7 win over host Westfield on Sunday. Pat Gervais, 40, an outfielder, came on in the fifth inning of the championship game and got the win. Seven of the 14 players will represent Quebec in the Baseball Canada Senior Men Championship
2008 CNOBF National Championships
As you may or may not know we sent a team to the Canadian National Oldtimers' Baseball Federation National championship which is being held in Hamilton, Ontario Aug 1- 4.
The Montreal Dodgers had the following members Mark Budman, Alan Singer, Dan Bleho all of the Jays, Ted Vavas, Alex Schicci and Phil Malwin of the Orioles.
Our team finished 6th in the 35+ age category, they lost in the Tier 2 championship game against a local Hamilton team.
We are now starting to prepare to send two(2) teams to next years tournament in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
